RIO DOS CEDROS
Rio dos Cedros: An enchanting destination
Rio dos Cedros is located in the European Valley of Santa Catarina. Colonized by Trentino-Italian immigrants—soon followed by German communities—the city preserves traces of these origins in its rural architecture, its cuisine based on polenta and cured meats, and the typical festivals held in the chapels of the colonies. With just over 11,000 inhabitants, it offers the tranquil atmosphere of the countryside without sacrificing good tourist infrastructure.
The municipality is known as the "Lakes Region" thanks to the dams built for energy generation. Lake Pinhal, in Alto Cedros, is the largest body of water in the area: 14 km long and 18 million cubic meters of impounded water, a perfect setting for boat trips, sport fishing, and stand-up paddleboarding.
Beyond classic ecotourism (hiking trails, waterfalls, and paragliding), Rio dos Cedros is part of the Vale Europeu Cycling Circuit, Brazil's first self-guided route, with 300 km of marked trails crossing nine municipalities and passing through villages, covered bridges, and old sawmills. Rural estates offer tastings of artisanal cheeses and salamis, while festivities like the Festa Trentina celebrate, amidst wines and traditional choirs, the multicultural legacy that makes the city a welcoming and authentic destination.
